I was having trouble getting videos loaded directly into my posts a month or so ago, so I decided to create an obscure YouTube account, upload a short video to it, then link to that video inside a blog post.
And it worked!
Except I discovered that unless the YouTube and Bogger accounts are linked, it's nearly imposible for a beginner like me to find my YouTube video from Blogger in order to link to it.
To resolve that problem I had to upload videos to my Google-linked YouTube account then my Google-linked Blogger account could find them.
I'm still playing around with the whole video thing and hope to include more of them in future blog posts.
All the above is to provide context for what comes next.

| That tree on the far left was a scraggly, knee-high, sickly little stick that got stepped on a few times when we built this wellhouse. |
Yesterday I went into the wellhouse to check on the water pressure. When I finished checking the gauge (it was fine which means I have 'sand' clogging up the kitchen faucet again) I turned and right there next to my shoulder, as in 12 inches away, was a good sized snake all coiled up on top of the filter-bracket.
I went back later and filmed this short video
and posted it. No links, no effort to get it seen, just uploaded. That was 24 hours ago.
The Holy Crap part is that in one day's time, one circuit of the (24 hour) clock, that 1 minute video has over 1400 views!
The vast majority of my blog posts, including those that have been sitting there cooking for 10 years, have less than 150 hits. (as I write this my latest post 'Signposts', has 29 hits after cooking for 3 days)
But I don't see myself switching over to that world anytime soon. I'm a crap videographer, haven't figured out how to edit those newfangled moving pictures at all, and have no interest in plastering my face all over the forever ether.

Now, now, let's not be too hasty about letting old patterns have their way. Michelle and I took video classes every few years from our public channel so I'm qualified to critique. That's a nice video. You start with an Establishment shot, move to a Location shot, provide some context and do a nice job of going in for the closeup followed by a succinct close. Bravo!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought a cheapie to video Jessica as I like the wider aspect ratio. Its zoom is very rough and the microphone is minimal but at $150.00 it'll do for now. But looking at those will give you an idea of what $150'll get you.
Way cool!!!
Pure luck. Or too many TV shows.
DeleteI just bought a $600 phone with video out the USB port (old phone didn't have that - and I was having to leave it plugged in most of the day because the non-replacable battery was ragged out) so we can cast Hulu from phone, which can recieve streaming via the cell signal, to the TV which has no access to internet so can't recieve streamed stuff (We're experimenting with getting rid of the satellite version of DirectTV and replacing it with a few select, reasonably priced, streaming subscriptions to save a couple though per year.), so I think I'll just stick to whatever video capabilities the phone has for now!
Well well well ... finally know a way to post those videos I have taken over the years with my phone. Hounds and dogs running in the backyard, Walter snoring nonstop ... I already have a YouTube account that I used only to find and keep information, or coaching interviews, car repair etc. I am going to follow your steps and see how it works. It looks promising though that Walter might become a video star on my blogs.
ReplyDeleteI too will never move to YouTube, vBlogging or Instagram. Besides all the foreign bots data farming, or when I die or a dog dies, I get less visits than you do on my posts. Although that short time last fall after the election when I did nothing but cut and paste corruption news from X, I had so much traffic I thought of monetizing my blog to make some dog food cash. LOL
Thank you for giving me something to work on today (videos/blogs) to keep me from dusting the house.
Good luck! There was a bit, but not much, of a learning curve to figure out the basics. And if you want more than that there's a whole bunch of YouTube videos on how to post content on YouTube to be found on - YouTube!
DeleteThe video looks good. What kind of snake is that? He/she looks very comfortable, despite being annoyed.
ReplyDeleteA Texas Rat snake. Pretty common around here.
DeleteA couple of days later they (the singular they - as in 'don't know what it's prefered sexual identification is'.) had moved to on top of the electrical distribution box, but it's been mis to high 70's the past couple days so it has moved on to more productive activities now.
